A chain link fencing machine is an industrial wire weaving system that automates the production of diamond-mesh fencing. It takes wire from spools, spins it into spirals, and interlocks each spiral with the preceding one to form continuous wire mesh boundaries.
The manufacturing process remains similar across all automation tiers. A feeder draws wire at controlled tension, wrapping it around a rotating die to create a helical spiral. Once cut to width, the ends are secured via knuckling (bending the tips) or twisting. In automatic setups, a PLC program controls the feed rates, spiral sizes, and cut-off triggers without requiring manual adjustments.
Processable Materials
Modern chain link machines process multiple wire types depending on the application requirements:
- GI Wire (Galvanized Iron): The industry standard for corrosion-resistant fencing.
- PVC-Coated Wire: Adds a decorative plastic layer for superior weather resistance.
- MS Wire (Mild Steel): Used for lightweight or temporary agricultural fencing.
- SS Wire (Stainless Steel): Chosen for high-corrosion industrial sites.
Machines generally support wire gauges ranging from 1.5 mm to 4.0 mm diameter.
Primary Target Industries
Fencing mesh produced by automated weaving is deployed globally across sectors: agricultural farms, security perimeters, residential projects, sports grounds, and infrastructure sites. Automated manufacturers supply these rolls directly to distributors, contractors, and retail fencing yards.
Automation Advantages
Manual weaving is slow and yields inconsistent diamond spacing. Shifting to automated machinery offers key operational advantages:
- Reduced Labor Costs: A single operator can monitor a fully automatic production run.
- Uniform Quality: Consistent tension maintains exact diamond sizes throughout the roll.
- High Throughput: Continuous motor winding significantly drives daily output.
Types of Chain Link Machines
Fencing machinery falls into three primary categories based on business volume:
- Manual Systems: Gear-driven winding assemblies, ideal for rural startups.
- Semi-Automatic Systems: Motorized winding paired with manual cutting and finishing.
- Fully Automatic Systems: PLC-controlled, servo-driven lines built for continuous bulk production.
